The Regulation on Thermal Installations in Buildings (RITE)
The Regulation on Thermal Installations in Buildings, the so called RITE, prohibits the use of non-renewable energy for the heating of both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The use of solar energy is obligatory and must provide between 30% and 70% of the annual thermal needs for heating the pool, depending on the climate zone of the site. In the Canary Islands the solar contribution must be 70%. It will also be compulsory to cover the surface of the heated pool, either indoors or outdoors.
Thermal Pool Cover
What is a thermal pool cover? It is a vital element to effectively heat a pool. Just as a pot lid, when we want to cook, The cover is a floating “blanket” of insulation that prevents the heat we provide to the pool during the hours of sunshine from being lost during the night. Therefore, the ideal is to use the pool cover always and only remove it when you go for a swim.

Dimensioning
Normally you calculate to heat a swimming pool, no matter how many m3 it has, the m2 of 50 to 75% of the surface of the pool sheet, which corresponds to the m2 of solar collectors. You will obtain a gain of approximately 10ºC over the ambient temperature. It is recommended to put a thermal pool cover at night to avoid losing all the energy supplied to the pool during the hours of sunshine.
